The specific 18.5 to 21.5mm loosening sockets can be used on chrome-plated covers which have not been removed during a previous disassembly and are therefore damaged or caulked on the wheel nut.
Similarly, 17-19 and 21mm helical sockets are required when wheel nuts are badly damaged and can no longer be loosened with a conventional hexagon.
Finally, during reassembly, the anodized and protected 17-19 and 21mm sockets will enable you to retighten your wheel to the desired torque without risk of marking the rim.
