Modern diesel engines need to generate fuel pressures of over 2000bar to operate efficiently. The presence of air in the fuel system will affect engine operation.
During fuel system maintenance and the installation of a new fuel filter, air will enter the system. Most modern systems have an automatic bleed or a hand pump permanently installed on the vehicle, but on many systems it takes some time to bleed all the air out of the system.
Modern diesel engines use two main methods of fuel supply:
- pressurized feed: using an electric pump installed in the tank to deliver fuel to the high-pressure pump.
- vacuum supply: using a motor-driven suction pump to generate the vacuum that will drive the fuel to the high-pressure pump.
The tools in this kit are designed to be connected to diesel fuel circuits, using OEM-type fittings.
